BL and some other stuff update

Out of the 100s of things I have to say on here (including a semi-important day trip to Danshui and the Fahrenheit concert), I chose this to write about.

Of course, I don't think anyone (including me) expects any different though.

So, after the poster I saw on that shop showing some yaoi, I had three more encounters with the magical subject. First, I discovered that some of my classmates like yaoi (this is a big deal because they admitted this to me. It's a really big deal here to say you like BL anything). One girl told me that Shu Shu, who's a fantastic artist, draws BL and she said that she'll draw me some. Chaching!

Sidebar: I'm listening to SS501's "Because I'm Stupid" and it makes me wanna cry! T.T Months after watching Boys Over Flowers, I still wanna cry at it's soundtrack! Why is this?! -_- All the memories. That show really pulls you through some shit with all the characters....

Okay, sorry. Encounter number two: I was walking to the MRT station from school when out of the corner of my eye, I spot... could it be? YES! A girl was holding a yaoi doujinshi! I almost fell over in shock! There it was, right in the open! Perhaps I have overestimated the undergroundedness of yaoi here. ^^

This is kinda sad, but the reason I noticed it was not because of the yaoiness of the cover (in fact, you had to look a little hard to see that it's yaoi b/c the cover looked very "normal") but because I recognized the art. The artist who drew it is the same person who did the character designs for the SUPER-ridiculous-but-I still-had-to-watch-it-and-deep-down-love-it yaoi video game turned OVA "Enzai." I was actually pretty proud of myself for recognizing it.

Oh the inside jokes I have with my Florida friends over Enzai.

Anyways, the girl is gonna pick me up a copy at the place she got it. I'm actually more interested in the store than the actual doujin, but it won't hurt to have some "artifacts" to examine, ne?

Oh, for those of you who don't know, a doujinshi is basically an amateur fan-made comic book on an already established work. But, professionals make doujins too. Take Yukiru Sugisaki (creator of Megami Kouhosei and DNAngel) who made a doujin of Escaflowne and Maki Murakami who created several really, REALLY yaoi doujins of her own BL series Gravitation.

The third encounter happened yesterday. I was at this fancy mall in Tian Mu when I went to a store who's name I can't mention to buy a secret something for my sister (it's a surprise!). I was passing by when I saw the gay Korean film "No Regret." I was so shocked to see it! First of all, it's old so I don't know why they're still selling it. Second of all, it's the worst gay film I've ever seen (Ai no Kotodama is a close second). Third, it's right there in front of me WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES. It took everything I had no to buy it right then and there.

This is a topic for another time but one of the things that drives me crazy is that I am absolutely encompassed in everything I could ever love and want (dramas, anime, hot guys) but the language problem is preventing me from enjoying them! I hate it! Of course this makes me study like a madwoman but there's only so much I can do so fast. I've already finished the first year Chinese textbook in less than two months and bought the second year volume yesterday. But I still cannot read or understand Chinese to the extent I need to to enjoy the things I love most. *sigh*

Anyways, one of the things that made seeing "No Regret" so amazing is that it had Eng subs, which is super rare here. T.T As much as I regretted watching No Regret, I would totally watch it again just to be able to have a yaoi fix in English.

Note to self: talk to you about the half-naked boy in the film Quentin and I saw an ad for at the MTV.

Okay, because I'm far over my time and my host mom is cracking down on my internet usage, I have to wrap this up.

A) The YEP problem I had previously is almost all gone. I have 5 other girls I'm super close with that have the same prob as me so we formed a nice little group. :) Two of the girls I'm especially close with.

B) The gay parade is coming up on Sat but everything and its mother is trying to get in my way of going. Mark my words, I'm going if it kills me.

C) Apparently some international comic festival is going on but I've been far too busy to try to find info on it.

D) I'm in the process of moving my blog b/c blogger blows yet I still update here...

Okay! Gtg! Love you all!

Bros Before Hos

Per usual, I don't have any time to write. ^^

Today was fantastic. I went out to eat a this really awesome themed restaurant in Ximending. I call it "The Fish Restaurant" b/c the whole theme is as if you're underwater. The seats are pieces of wood suspended from the ceiling by chains and there tables are tanks (with no water) but you can look into them and see little decorations and stuff. So cool!

Oddly enough, they don't sell seafood at all. BUT, they do serve the best variety of amazing drinks in all of Taipei. ^^ I just ordered coke cause I suck but my friends ordered delicious things I got to drink. Like Strawberry Green Tea (delicious), "First Love" (delicious- it was a little sour at first, then sweet. Haha!), "Genie in a Bottle" (delicious), etc. They have an amazing variety of food too but it's not the best food I've ever had. It's mostly western food. :3

They even have smoothies and ICE CREAM FLOATS! The only place I've ever seen icecream floats in.

It was me, Corinna (my German gf!), Ju (my Brazilian wife), Aurelia (the only French person I love 100%), and my "brothers" (Jacky and Justin from my class in Yong Chun). It was so fun! Of course, Jacky and Justin were a hit with my foreign friends b/c they are awesome. I decided that I'm going to marry Justin b/c he's rich. That's a story for another time though. We agree to have lovers on the side. Haha!!

Then we all went to this awesome arcade place and I DDRed for about 2 hours. ^^ I met two 20-something-year-olds who both lived in the US for a really long time and returned to Taiwan for different reasons. One of them was pretty hot. They RULED at DDR. Haha! I got their contact info, so I hope we can play together again. :3

Okay, I have to go. But, quickly, the reason for the title.

Justin is in love with a girl in our class (I don't know her) and he's been texting her a lot. Well, he was gonna call her when we were out and I was like "Dude, put the phone down. Bros before hos." XDDD It was hilarious. I explained to him what that means and he was like "Oh, okay! :3"

I had to do this to Tan too. His ex-girlfriend kept calling him when we went to the top of Taipei 101 and I grabbed the phone, talked with her a bit, and hung up. Now, I wouldn't do this to anyone b/c it's really rude, but I'm super close with Tan, Jacky, and Justin (they're my brothers from another mother) so it was okay. They all think it's hilarious.

We have a code of honor, you know? ;P

Concert Report No 1: SS501 Asia Tour

FYI: Right now, I can't upload the only vid I took on my camera b/c all of my batteries are dead. And I don't know how to put my vids on my phone on the comp.
I recommend watching this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrQcd-17h0s&translated=1 because it's my favorite song and it's good quality. :) Of course, they performed this one near the start of the concert so I was very happy. FYI- Kim Hyun Jung (KHJ) is the sexy beast in the green pants. His hair is so cute in this vid!

Okay, I just wanna say that this concert has been the highlight of my 18 and some change years of existence. Rumor has it that SuJu's coming to Taiwan on my best friends bday, Feb 20th, next year. If that's the case, I will try my damnedest (is that a word?) to go.

Where to start? I guess I'll do this chronologically. (Not really the most creative but it'll get the job done).

I arrived at the Taipei Dome at 6:30, but the concert started at 7:30. I've been there twice already to go ice skating with friends so I only got a little lost. :3 Of course, outside was filled with screaming girls. Some of them had these neat signs with Korean on them (no doubt spelling the name of Kim Hyun Jung, the leader and most popular). Oh, on a little side note that I promise is vaguely related to what I'm saying-- I got Quentin into the best drama ever: Boys Over Flowers.

Lisi- he's in love with Yi Jung (the potter guy for the rest of you XD). Haha. Of course, he likes all of their looks. :)

This makes me happy b/c now when I go into the two idol stores in Taipei or the anime stores, I have someone to go with to hunt for the best Lee Min Ho stuff.

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, Boys Over Flowers (or Kkotboda Namja in Korean or Hana Yori Dango in Japanese or Liu Xin Hua Yuan in Chinese) is the single greatest show to ever grace the face of television (although the ending was crap)--and I've watch a LOT of shows. :) The leader of SS501 (the Korean band I went to see last night), Kim Hyun Jung, is the goody love interest of the main female character. Lee Min Ho plays the other love interest named Koo Jun Pyo. I can't for the life of me remember KHJ's character's name. Yi Jung and Woo Bin are the other hot boys in the show.

Back to the concert:

Okay, so the signs the fans had should have some sort of award system. They were very creative. One said "Joong" (the other spelling of KHJ's last name) but the "oo" were these cute little hearts. Some of the girls had neon signs they carried around with them saying various things in Korean and Chinese.

One mistake I realized I made once it was too late: ALL Asian idol concerts are filled with green or blue glowstick-wielding fans. I failed to buy them when I saw people selling them outside. I've seen many, many live performances on DVD and youtube but I forgot to buy one... next time...

The concert lasted for 2.5 hours. I wish to god it was longer or that I could slow down time. I sat in section 3D. It was definitely far but I still enjoyed myself. It could have been worse. :)

A few days before I charged my camera batteries. Usually that lasts me for a while but around 11 am the day of the concert, my batteries died. I was out all day with my classmates so I couldn't recharge them, so before the concert I bought 3 pairs of batteries.

It did no good. They all died in less than a minute. I wanted to cry. So, I have one vid on my camera but it's only of the beginning and I have a bunch of short vids on my phone but they are bad quality and you can't see much... *sigh*

The outfits: The first outfits looked like they walked out of a gay Star Trek parody. o.O I don't know who decided that was a good idea but it wasn't... and near the penis area there was a little dangly golden thing. Not sure what that's suppose to mean.

Eventually it did get better though. The highlight of the evening was their pink outfit choice. XD It was made of silk, I think, and it was a mix between a vest and a suit. Try to imagine a suit blazer but without sleeves and hot, hot pink. And the bottom area was brought in tighter. And the neck was a super deep V-line. SE~XY!

The hair: I admit that I only know the name of KHJ... T.T I like SS501's music but I've never taken the time to learn about anyone but KHJ... Haha... So, I can't refer to them by name... and I kinda didn't pay much attention to them.

YOU try paying attention to them when you have this sexy hunk of man *cough*KHJ*cough* shaking his ass everywhere. I'm surprised I remained conscious throughout the whole thing.

One member did catch my attention though. His hair was fabulous. :) And his smile and personality outshone everyone. KHJ has a habit of seeming dead and emotionless at any given time. Haha. Last night he had some energy, but this nameless member definitely created most of the energy in the air. He was hopping around and saying things in a really cute way (of course I couldn't understand him but w/e). T.T I wish I could describe more but I really can't say more than this. I can't describe it well. Maybe when I can show everyone the vids...

KHJ's hair sucked. He cut it short on most sides but had the semi-long side spiked up and out. I did not appreciate it... he had a photoshoot with this hair not too long ago and it didn't look bad but I still didn't like it. In person, I like it even less. AND, he's gotten REALLY skinny, so that hair didn't do much for his long, thin head. Not a good choice. Bleh.

The music: Holy effing crap. I didn't think it was possible but they sound 10x better in person. The member who attracted me most has the voice of a god. It's cute and girly and he can hit some amazing notes. So sweet! Everyone else was really good too. Their voices were clear and void of electronic enhancement, so I felt like I got to know their music sound a bit better. :D

Of course, the more girly they sound the happier I am. And they sound much more girly in person. Especially KHJ. I spent about 25 hours listening to that man's voice on Boys Over Flowers and NEVER did he sound like that. :3

Another note about the music: In addition to playing all of my favorite songs (but only one from BOF), one member sang a solo in Chinese. It was amazing! I thought I got a vid of it but I can't find it on my phone. :( It was beautiful. The member who sang it, I just found out, is Park Jung Ming. He has the best vocals, I think, of the group. I understood very little of it but I was happy. The chorus said "Zai nali" which is "Where are you?"

The fanservice: Korean musicians have never been one for onstage BL (minus Heechul--thank you sir!), so I wasn't expecting much (even if I was still hopeful). Nothing happened in that department except what my mind created, of course.

Can I put that on my resume? Can slash the most seemingly benign friendships while recording notes in my head to tell my friends later and enjoying a concert of 5 sexy men. Maybe not.

For what I could pick up on, in the beginning they only used sexy male dancers (to my sadness, the scantily clad woman showed up later). There was some cute chemistry between the dancers and SS501. :) The dancing was awesome in every song. Each song had some sort of super awesome gravity defying or kickass move. One song they did ballroom dancing. One song the members did this "I hate you, get your hands off me" number to the women. In one song, these male dancers did martial art-esque moves. Very enjoyable.

The definite highlight of the evening: KHJ took off his shirt--for a while. Seeing his gorgeous body (those abs!), I won't have to eat for another week! I am completely nourished! Haha. Unfortunately, I was having a quandry because I didn't know if I should stare at the little figure that was him, the screen, or try to delete stuff on my phone so I could take a vid. I got the worst end of it. I stared a little and spent most of his shirtless time trying to delete stuff on my phone only to get the very last second on camera in really bad quality. TT^TT

There were some sexy dances between the boys and the female dancers. But we're not gonna go there, now are we? ;)

The chatting moments: In case you don't know this, virtually every Asian musician takes several moments throughout the concert to talk with the fans. This one was no different. The first time, they introduced themselves in Chinese. It was so cute!

For most of the concert, there were Chinese subs on the screens. Towards the end, an interpreter did the job. TT^TT That'll be me one day!

That one member I mentioned earlier is very playful. He, by himself, made all of us react in great ways. Haha. I suck at explaining. "Yes, yes, Josie, we know everything was 'great and awesome,' but how? Explain it. Don't use those words." I can just hear my senior English teacher now. XD

The theatrics: The stage was nice-looking and modern. Imagine a rounded square shape with four pit-areas cut out for the lucky bitches who could get the tickets fast enough to enjoy. :( At one point all the edges were outlined in blue and looked really cool.

There were several areas that the boys could go into the groud or appear with. There were 5 areas where they could be elevated very high. There was smoke, confetti, you name it. The lights were mostly green, blue, and red in some areas. I swear one of the lasers hit me in the eye b/c at some point my eye started heating up and the next thing I know I'm seeing spots. It was a weird sensation.

During one of their more ballady songs, they sat on these tall, white, cirular chairs in a rotating circle floor piece. It was pretty cool.

What I bought: Unfortunately, by the time I got there, most everything was gone. They only had cds, one dvd, and an expensive photobook that came with a huge poster of some guy I don't know (I'm assuming it's one of the members). I bought the expensive photobook but now I wish I had bought the DVD. It was cheaper and I'd enjoy it way more. Oh well. I made a lot of mistakes. What can you do? It was my first time.

The end: The last song they performed, they came out in t-shirts and tight black pants. I didn't understand why until they broke out the water bottles and water guns and start soaking the ground floor people. All the dancers joined too. It was cute. But, not as casual and fluid as they wanted it to seem, I think. (Reference: SuJu KRY's super soaker cowboy song: Now THAT was a water fight).

So there you have it folks! ^^ I'm sure I'm leaving out things but I'll be sure to tell people who are interested.

All in all, it was one of the best experiences ever and I hope I have another chance to see them in the future. Nothing like seeing them live to make me love them 100x more than I did before!

PS- Their new album "REBIRTH" is coming out on Oct. 20. Go get it!

News With Quentin

On Monday and Tues of last week, my classmates had the first of three series of giant exams for the semester, so I had no class (still had to go to school though.. dunno why).

Manon's class was prohibited from coming to school because one kid got H1N1 (for you Americans that means swine flu), so she wasn't there for Mon and Tues. Miguel was there on Mon but not Tues because he had a Rotary meeting.

I was with Quentin for the all of Monday (and so was Miguel) and Tuesday, but I did not see what he ate that was out of the ordinary. We didn't go anywhere new; all we did was eat and sleep on a certain couch we all love.

Whatever it was, by Tues morning, he had all of these small little bumps on his elbow and knees. We both thought they were misquito bites. Then, Wednesday morning while I was waiting for everyone in our meeting place, I get a call from Quentin saying he will not join us because he has to take the bus to school and that he had bad news. He sounded terrible and I thought for a while that he had gotten in trouble.

Well, turns out he was having a severe allergic reaction to something. By the time he got to school, he was COVERED in these little solid white and red bumps. He said that they burned like he was on fire so I suggested putting his arm under some water. That made it way worse. After he pulled his arm out, the bumps started bubbling. It was absolutely disgusting! I felt so bad for him!

Mr. Wang took Quentin to the hospital in first period and I couldn't visit him till after my second school (thankfully it let out early and was nearby the hospital Quentin was in). By the time I arrived (around 4 ish) he was much better. He had to have a shot for 6 hours! Mr. Wang told me the nurse had trouble getting to the vein b/c of all the nastiness.

Anyways, unfortunately, even though Quentin went home at 7, he's having another outbreak now. This time he says it's on his stomach, legs, and arms. :(

I was glad I could visit him and bring him dinner and his favorite drink, but I don't have time to visit him again till Sunday. I hope he's better by then.

In a little side note, Quentin has this boy in PE who's in love with him. Nicknamed "Bad Boy," Quentin's admirer stayed up till almost 3 am last night making these adorable stars out of paper. He filled a jar with them. How cute!

First Yaoi Manga Encounter

Okay, so I did see a boys love book a few weeks ago, but this is much more exciting.

I present to you: an advertisement for yaoi manga! I KNEW it had to be somewhere. I saw this on my way home from visiting Quentin in the hospital today (you can read about that in the next post--I promise I'll update soon... ><).

He'll be so happy when I see him tom at school! (He's good, btw).

SMALL EDIT: So, Quentin won't be at school tom, but happy he will be!

There is light

I feel as if God is smiling down on me.

The day following the night I read Jared's comment to me about finding Taiwanese fags remedying my problematic situation, I find out that my class changed seats and "OK, ma?" sits right next to me.
:D I'm gonna enjoy sitting next to him for the next couple of weeks (we change seats frequently). My goal is to be friends with him by then.

Wish me luck!

(Ignore my hair in the picture--I was taking this picture all incognito-like.)

911? Jared, tasukete!

Note: I had to delete certain comments. I'm sorry. :(

So, something major is bothering me right now.

Firstly, I'm having a major problem with most of the other exchange students. Basically, they ignore me. I make a lot of effort to talk to them and they just refuse to talk to me. It's gets worse when I'm surrounded by the group I've dubbed "The French People" (it includes some nonFrench and excludes some French but they are widely known as the French People).

They only talk in French. No matter how much I try to talk with them. And somehow I always end up with them. I never plan on it, I just end up with them. For hours, I don't say much. It absolutely sucks. I am a very social person and I love to talk to people but I am being purposely excluded and I don't know why.

I am not the only person to notice this either: Miguel (Mexico) noticed it too. At first they excluded him just like me but now they have arbitrarily decided that he's "in" now.

How fucking juvenile is this? It's one thing when the quiet people in the exchange don't talk to me. It's another when the very talkative people ignore me. We recently went on a 7 hour trip to somewhere in Taiwan and I barely said a word. It killed me. But hardly anyone cares about anything I say. The people who do are busy talking with the people who don't, so I am left alone with the other excluded people (who don't talk much btw).

Quentin is just as bad. We are friends when it's just me and him or me, him, Manon, and Miguel but around the other French people, I suddenly don't exist.

This was brought to its climax Sunday night when I was basically forced to go to a really, REALLY expensive dinner with Quentin and Quoc (the Belgian boy). For three hours, I just sat there, completely ignored. Just the night before I had spent a lot of time with Quentin, talking and such. Now I don't exist.

I could deal with it the first 100 times. Now it's been over a month and it's evident that I cannot deal with this anymore. I exist. I know I do. So why are 35 people acting like I don't?

Now I've just stopped talking to Manon and Quentin; I don't ignore them but I don't purposefully talk to them if I don't have to. And they're saying I'm being childish. Which pisses me the fuck off because Manon says she hates being around the giant group of Americans here because she can't understand them and just sits there and Quentin complains when everyone speaks Chinese for a while b/c he cannot understand. But when it comes to me, I'm being childish.

What's more, when Anna-Marie (Czech) or Tan (Taiwan) are around, Quentin and Quoc magically speak English again. But fuck me, right?
